Air compressor coolant (screw compressor oil) is not for lifetime use.
It will degrade after long-term high-temperature oxidation, leading to overheating, wear and carbon buildup.
The replacement interval mainly depends on the compressor type, working conditions and oil grade.
Below are industry general standards for on-site reference.

The replacement interval mainly depends on the compressor type, working conditions and oil grade.
Below are industry general standards for on-site reference.
I. Standard Replacement Intervals Under Normal Working Conditions
Semi-synthetic air compressor coolant
Normal environment: 2000 hours or 6–8 months
Full-synthetic air compressor coolant
Normal environment: 4000–6000 hours or 12–18 months
Special oil for piston air compressors
General conditions: 500 hours or 3 months
Whichever comes first:
Replace if the time is reached even if operating hours are not met;
replace immediately if operating hours are reached even if time is not met.
Replace if the time is reached even if operating hours are not met;
replace immediately if operating hours are reached even if time is not met.
II. Shorten Interval for Harsh Working Conditions
Shorten the interval by 30%–50% if any of the following apply:
- Dusty, humid or high-temperature environment
- 24-hour continuous operation
- Frequent high-temperature alarms
- Dusty, chemical, painting or woodworking workshops
III. Simple Signs for Immediate Replacement (No Need to Check Time)
Replace immediately if:
- Oil becomes significantly dark, thick or smelly
- Emulsification or whitening occurs (water ingress)
- Excessive foaming or increased differential pressure across the oil-gas separator
- Unit temperature is obviously higher than normal
IV. Recommended Parts to Replace Together
It is best to replace these at the same time as coolant:
- Oil filter
- Oil separator element
- Air filter
This avoids contamination of new oil by old impurities and extends service life.
Summary
- Semi-synthetic: about 2000 hours / 6 months
- Full-synthetic: about 4000–6000 hours / 1 year
- Piston compressor: about 500 hours / 3 months
Shorten interval in harsh environments; replace immediately if oil deteriorates.
