How to Judge the Air Consumption Load Fluctuation in a Factory

To judge air consumption load fluctuation, focus on air consumption in different periods, equipment start-stop status and pressure variation range. Combined with daily production schedules, you can make a quick judgment, which serves as a reference for selecting variable frequency or fixed frequency air compressors.

1. Judge by Air Consumption in Different Periods

Day and Night Comparison

If air consumption is high during daytime production while production stops or only a few devices run at night with a huge gap in air volume, the load fluctuates greatly. If air consumption remains basically the same for 24 hours a day, the load is relatively stable.

Shift Comparison

If the number of operating equipment varies greatly among morning, afternoon and night shifts with a notable difference between peak and valley air consumption, the load fluctuation is high. If the production intensity of each shift is balanced and the total air consumption has no obvious change, the load is stable.

Workday and Weekend Comparison

Full-load production on workdays and shutdown or semi-shutdown on weekends lead to a sharp drop in air volume, indicating significant load fluctuation. If the production rhythm stays consistent and air consumption differs slightly on days off, the fluctuation is minor.

2. Observe Air Pressure and Operating Status

Frequent fluctuations of the pressure gauge with a pressure difference over 0.1 MPa means unstable air demand and large load fluctuation.

If the air pressure stays within a fixed range for a long time with gentle changes, the air consumption load is basically stable.

Frequent switching between loading, unloading, start and stop of the air compressor indicates rapid changes in air demand and obvious load fluctuation.

If the unit keeps running under load with little idling, the load tends to be stable.

3. Judge by Production Mode

Intermittent production, batch processing and alternate operation of individual equipment result in discontinuous air supply and large load fluctuation.

For synchronous operation of automated production lines with multiple devices running continuously, the air consumption load remains stable.

Temporary additional working procedures or rush orders cause a sudden surge of air demand in a short time, leading to relatively high overall load fluctuation.

If the production process is fixed and daily output is standard, the air consumption load fluctuates slightly.

4. Simple Quantitative Criteria

  • The load is judged as greatly fluctuated when the difference between peak and valley air volume exceeds 30% of the average value.
  • The load is judged as stable when the difference between peak and valley air volume is less than 20% of the average value.
